Storm Pictures From Yesterday & Next Week's Warm-up

Yesterday we saw yet another batch of storms move through the area - and these ended up being stronger than any of the ones we've seen recently. We had a few great pictures sent in to us, and hope that when you see anything photo-worthy, that you take a moment and send one to us! Even if it's just a cell phone picture, send them to weather@kdlt.com or a_shaffer@kdlt.com and we'll get them on-air.

One very dramatic picture taken was thanks to Janice, who was out camping near Fort Pierre, and took this picture across the river.

There were a number of impressive storms at that time, and that one looks particularly dramatic - especially when you consider just how hard it is to capture lightning on a camera!

Another great picture came from Zach, who is from Pierre but was watching storms in Potter County. That one shows a very well-defined wall cloud.

If you look at the picture above, notice the area that is lowered from the rest of the cloud that takes up most of the middle of the picture. That is the wall cloud. If you look closely you can see a little open space between what looks like the front and the back of the wall cloud. On the far right side of the picture you can see a tail cloud - which is a sign of strong inflow to the storm. From this picture, this looks like it was a powerful storm - possibly the one we were following last night that showed strong signs of rotation!

Warming Next Week!

We also have some good news besides the cool-looking pictures. We're starting to see signs of the jetstream lifting toward the North. While we will save that topic of discussion for another day (unless you want to email me at a_shaffer@kdlt.com for more information), the end result is warmer temperatures...

Look at what the computer models are suggesting for temperatures by the start of next week:

70s & 80s in our area? Looks like it! We'll have to be skeptical for now, because we get teased a lot this time of year... but with the signs of the jetstream gradually shifting to the North coupled with some nice high pressure out there bringing in warmer southerly winds - it's looking good.

For now, stay tuned - and have a great night!
