How Low Will It Go?

Cold front pushing through the state this morning will lead to a very cool weekend starting tonight. Temperatures will likely be near the freeze mark in many areas of northern and western South Dakota. But just how cold will it get. Well, a lot of it depends on the cloud cover and the wind speed. If the skies are calm and the winds are calm, things get very cold, and vise versa. Taking into account all of those factors, two different models paint two very different pictures. Below is an image a forecasting model that spits out numerical values for lows in certain locations across the region. Here is what it's saying about tonight.Notice there is a big difference between both of the models. This is the difficulty we are having with this system because all of the models are very different from each other. Right now it does look like temperatures will get at least very close to freezing in the north, but just how cold we get is really any ones guess. I would just plan for the worst though and cover up those plants.
