Well it may be calm now for many, but wait a few more hours and all the counties in South Dakota will be under this winter weather advisory, starting at 9pm. This one will last until 1pm on Sunday, so expect visibilities to drop and there will be many areas (further South and East) where snow will be moderate to heavy at times. The bulk of the heavy snowfall will be during the overnight hours, but Worthington could see a sketchy start to Sunday morning. Here's the current capture on the radar... the mass of the snow is in Nebraska right now, and it will push to the North and East over the next 18 hours, watch it follow mainly the yellow arrow. This path will bring that rather intense band (circled) of snow right around Yankton extending up towards Viborg. Areas in this area could see snowfall rates as intense as around an inch of snow per hour. That intense band could line up elsewhere however, but right now, this is where my snowfall estimates lie:
More updates later... stay tuned - another round of snow is in the forecast that could add insult to injury in the North. Hope you didn't put away that winter jacket or snow shovel!
