The warmest day of this above average streak is expected today with many areas getting into the 60's and 70's today. But what a difference a few days can make. Here is the temperature trend and records for the month of March. Pay close attention to the last few days; just five days ago, Sioux Falls had a high of only nine degrees and now we are expecting highs to be nearly 60 degrees warmer then that.
This incredible warmth is doing a number on the remaining snow cover across the state. Here is how much snow was left on the ground as of yesterday morning.
You can bet that these totals are much less today because yesterday was extremely warm as well.
The graphic below pretty much sums up today's forecast....."March or May?"
This warm weather has also brought us some very dry conditions with low humiditys and gusty winds across the south. Because of that, many areas of the south are in an extremely high fire danger. So, be careful what you do with hot objects such as cigarettes.
