Storms With Tornadoes Over Oklahoma... And A Warm-Up Again For Us?

I wanted to start out right away with some screenshots of radar from Oklahama's severe weather today - it's been interesting to follow:

That was from earlier this evening, with lots of supercells in this batch. Basically, each blob of red you see is from its own cell, and is a supercell thunderstorm. Supercells are so powerful they form their own mini-low pressure system - even with cold fronts! They survive for hours because they are able to break away from the main flow and feed themselves energy.

In our own area we've been following more tame weather - but still windy with some snow. The main snow lingering right now is toward the NE. This is a radar screenshot I just took (as of 6:19pm) of NE South Dakota:

Snow is basically gone - which is good. Still clouds and cooling behind the cold front and cold "sector" of the storm - but we'll see those leave us eventually as well. Look for colder air to move in - but we trade clouds and rain for sun and cooling.

The cooling won't last long, though. Remember the title of this post - or at least the end..."And A Warm-Up Again..." Well, there is a warm-up in sight. I'll save the details for now - but it's possible that we'll be seeing 40s again by the middle of next week.

Here's a plot of temperatures at the 850mb level (about 2/3 of a mile up) for next Tuesday evening:

Those lighter shades of blue represent temperatures of about 32 degrees farenheit. If we could get enough other ingredients to mix together with those temperatures, we could end up at around 40 by Tuesday afternoon! We'll see!

Have a great night!
