Snow Potential - And A Lot Of It

As the election coverage continues you might want to take a break to see where you fall in line with some pretty impressive snow totals we are starting to pull together for our area. We are seeing some very cold bands of air that will be mixing in with some rainy/wet areas. That is not a good sign. Another thing we are looking for? Wind - and lots of it. Expect some periods of blizzard conditions centered around the Missouri River from about Mobridge south toward Pierre, with about 100 miles east and west of the river possibly seeing some of that action as well. This is looking like a very large storm. We are going to post some very preliminary numbers - so don't quote us on this yet, but this is our best estimate so far and is subject to changes as this system becomes more mature in its development.

Throw in some 20-35mph sustained winds with this system and you've got yourself one doozy of a system. As a result of all of this we will definitely see at least short periods of blizzard conditions - if not an all out blizzard. Not a pretty sight, but at least this will be happening after elections are over.

If you have any questions about what you should expect make sure to post a comment on this post. We would love to hear from you, and will continue to post updates on this system along with photos from you, the viewer, on our blog. Send any pictures to weather@kdlt.com and we'll try to get them either on-air or on our blog, or both.

Stay tuned! We are monitoring this system literally 24 hours a day so nothing should sneak up on us.
