Some Heavy Rain Today
Some areas are getting hammered this morning with some heavy rain. Scattered thunderstorms have developed so not everyone is getting wet but some locations have already picked up more then an inch of rain this morning and that is from a combination of two things; lots of moisture and slow moving storms. The current radar you see below from southeast South Dakota shows some of that thunderstorm activity. The column of information is for one of those storm cells. Ignore all the information except for the piece at the very bottom; "14 knots". That's the speed at which the storm is moving which is less then 20 mph. With storms releasing tremendous amounts of rain, that is an extremely slow speed so some places could easily get an inch of rain in less then an hour. Make sure you keep your umbrella handy today because these look to continue for the rest of the day.
