If you watched KDLT News tonight, you probably saw a story by our weekend meteorologist Jesse Ritka talking about the abnormally cool weather. It goes into the jetstream and a bunch of other issues. The main thing is that it's been pretty cool and moist lately - but with not much actual rain falling. We are continuing to find ourselves falling deeper and deeper into a rainfall deficit in eastern portions of our viewing area, with Sioux Falls now over 4 inches below average on the year.
You might find that hard to believe, given the cool and cloudy conditions - and cool and cloudy it has been... since June 1st's 80 degree day:
That's quite a change since the first of June - and well below average. Our average high for most of us the past few days has been about 78-80 degrees - and most of us have been about 15 degrees or more under that.
Warming Coming
We talked about it a bit last night on our KDLT Weather Blog, but there is some relief from the cool conditions on the way. That is good news on many levels - for pools, waterparks, park preserves, etc. that have all had declining attendance. We will look for some rain chances - but a general shift in the weather pattern that will allow for drier southerly and southwesterly winds to move in. Something else you should notice by the start of next week will be some increased humidity (not the type that will form clouds, but the type that feels muggy). Should be an interesting period.
Have a great night & don't lose hope in warming!
