Severe Weather Returns

The possibility of organized severe weather returns today as the storm prediction center has issued a slight risk for our entire viewing area. There are however, certain areas that may be more prone to the severe stuff later on today. We can see some of the components coming together in the models in certain areas so the probabilities can be higher in some areas of the slight risk then in others. The probabilities of seeing tornado's, large hail, and damaging winds are listed below.Notice that the southeast appears to have a little bit higher risk of seeing that severe weather. That is partly because we are expecting an MCS to form and move southeast. An MCS is a Mesoscale Convective System. I realize that those are a couple of huge words that you may not grasp. But basically and MCS is a large complex of storms that typically forms into a line and often causes some destructive winds. The picture below is one such example. But keep in mind that this is a pretty extreme case.In these extreme cases, they can form into a derecho which produces some of the fastest straight line winds on earth. Now we are not expecting anything of that nature, but just be on the look out for a line of thunderstorms this evening that could pack winds of 50-60mph and have golf ball sized hail.
