

Notice that the southeast appears to have a little bit higher risk of seeing that severe weather. That is partly because we are expecting an MCS to form and move southeast. An MCS is a Mesoscale Convective System. I realize that those are a couple of huge words that you may not grasp. But basically and MCS is a large complex of storms that typically forms into a line and often causes some destructive winds. The picture below is one such example. But keep in mind that this is a pretty extreme case.
In these extreme cases, they can form into a derecho which produces some of the fastest straight line winds on earth. Now we are not expecting anything of that nature, but just be on the look out for a line of thunderstorms this evening that could pack winds of 50-60mph and have golf ball sized hail. ~KDLT Meteorologist Cody Matz
