Cool July....Brief Warmup

The first three weeks of July have been very cool for summertime weather in South Dakota. In fact, Sioux Falls and many other locations across the east have yet to hit 90 degrees during the month. That feat may not seem unusual but keep this in mind; Sioux Falls averages 10 days of 90 degree temperatures or higher in the month of July. If we don't manage to hit that magic number, then it would be the first time that has happened since 1992 and just one of a hand full of times in history.

Some more information about just how cool this July has been was issued by the National Weather Service yesterday. The chart below shows how far from the average temperature several cities are in South Dakota.
To put these numbers into perspective, a month is considered to be below average if the figure is 1.5 degrees below the average and is considered to be well below average if the figure is 3.0 degrees below the average. Notice that almost all of these numbers are below the mark of 3.0 degrees.

But the good news for those of you who like the hot weather is that we are going to see a brief warm up on Thursday as Aaron mentioned yesterday. Here is what one of the models is forecasting for high temperatures come tomorrow.

Stay Cool!!!
