Wind, AH!

Very windy today as a low pressure continues to push through South Dakota. This will usher in cold air with some tremendous winds. Here is what we are looking at for winds at 850mb at noon today. We can expect some of these winds to make it down to the surface. This would lead to wind gusts over 50 mph. This shows sustained winds anywhere from 40-60 knots (50-75mph). However, this is a very fast moving storm system so these winds are not going to last long as by 6am tomorrow morning, this image shows that these winds have dipped well to the south and 850mb winds are down to 10-20 knots (15-25 mph).
These winds will actually get cutoff from the surface so many areas across the east may go calm late tonight. What a difference a a few hours can make!
