Rain Tonight

Looks like today will be a dry day for the most part. Could see an isolated storm develop south of I-90 late this afternoon. Will be mild in the south and cool in the north with a cold front making its way through the area today. However, big changes in the forecast tonight as a storm system will rapidly develop to our south and will spread showers and storms across the state through the night. Below is a forecast for the storms tonight. This model develops a forecast of what it thinks the radar would look like at any given time. The images are a time lapse taken every 4 hours starting at 8pm tonight. The showers and storms will start in western South Dakota but will quickly spread eastward. By midnight, showers will be across the west and south. Then by the overnight hours, a line of storms will be pushing eastward in the southeast with thunderstorms likely from Mitchell to Yankton to Sioux Falls. Those storms continue to push to the east through Saturday morning. Some areas could pick up more then an inch of rain.
