Cold front will work its way into South Dakota today which will cause showers and storms to develop later this afternoon. Storms have fired up this morning across the northeast but that was from a little impulse out in front of the main storm system so the heaviest rain is still yet to come. Some spots could pick up quite a bit as well as this cold front will be slow moving. The Hydrological Prediction Center (HPC) has widespread areas receiving an inch or more of rainfall with this system through 7am tomorrow morning.
With the heavy rain could be some severe weather as well, something we haven't talked much about over the last few weeks. The Storm Prediction Center did issue a slight risk for severe weather over much of eastern South Dakota and parts of far western Minnesota. I'm not expecting a widespread outbreak but don't be surprised to see a few warnings that may pop up later today and tonight for some large hail and damaging winds.
