Crazy Storm Overhead

Look at this storm - you've probably seen it outside your home, but it's quite large in scope:

One thing to notice of this large system is the area in southern Minnesota with no rain or clouds showing up - that's called the "dry slot." You see these a lot in mature cyclones like the one over us right now.

Here's what we're seeing on radar in a view over the Sioux Falls and SE South Dakota region:

Near Madison we're seeing some little pop-up showers. There is a possibility of some thunder with these storms - even some tiny hail is a possibility. If you hear any thunder where you live make sure you let me know so I can talk about it for the 10pm show!

Here's a broader view of the area - and my thoughts about what it means for us:

Notice the showers showing up by Vermillion and the extreme eastern portion of Nebraska. They are more widespread, and they should be wrapped back up into the Sioux Falls area and back farther north - as rain. Don't be surprised to see some light rain or drizzle form with this and move to the North.

Speaking of the North - they have the best chance for mixed showers and snow. Here is a view of the radar near the Missouri River as of right now (6:26pm) as well:

And here is what we're thinking for snow - this is a tough one, so it should be good to go back and see how this snowfall totals map looks after the storm:

Get that umbrella ready, and have a great night!

Thanks for not giving us a big winter storm!

No problem - although some people farther toward the North and the West are going to be disagreeing with that assessment, haha. This has been a very interesting storm to forecast for and see it unfold in reality. Hopefully you've enjoyed it as well!
