Unfortunately this storm we saw staying farther toward our south has crept northward over the past couple of days. This one is a more "southern-style" storm in which it started as mostly rain - but now as it creeps northward it is encountering some very chilly air. Temperatures in the 20s at the surface, and slightly above freezing at about 33-34 in the middle levels of the atmosphere. This is what the vertical profile looks like:
If you see the zero on the bottom-middle of the picture, and follow that line up, that is the freezing mark all through the atmosphere. You can see the red line move slightly to the right - that's your above freezing temperatures. That means it starts as snow, melts, and then refreezes when it hits the near-surface area. All in all a messy night. We'll update as needed if this gets worse than we're expecting/hoping for.
