First Arctic Blast???

Now that we are in the month of December, its time to start thinking about the cold blasts of air that we typically start to get. Well, as many South Dakotans are aware, Arctic air can often travel all the way down to the United States. Looks like we may see that happen for the first time this season coming up later in the week. This is a picture of what one of our many models thinks the temperatures will be about 5000 feet above the surface on Thursday. We are talking temperatures anywhere between -14 and -18 degrees Celsius. That translates to temperatures from about 0 to 7 degrees fahrenheit. Now, we aren't expecting temperatures at the surface to be that cold but those temperatures aloft would mean that we can expect highs in the teens and twenties for most of the state. That would be the coldest air of the season and would definately make me want to put about 5 layers of clothes on. So be prepared because looks like winter is coming whether we like it or not.
