The Snow and Cold is Here...

The snow is already falling near the Missouri River and the extremely cold air isn't far behind. Those of you that don't like either one of those are definitely not going to like the rest of the week as the snow will fly tonight and tomorrow and the extreme cold will take hold Thursday and Friday. We are not talking a tremendous amount of snow, but enough to cause travel headaches, especially when you add the 20-40 mph winds. Here are the components of this storm from the National Weather Service's point of view.
The Hydrological Prediction Center is also keeping an eye on this storm and has forecasted quite a bit of snow for some of us.

The probability of receiving at least 4 inches of snow between 6 am Wednesday and 6 am Thursday:They are thinking that some of us could get 4 inches of snow during the heart of this storm but that's not even all of it because we are likely going to get snow before and after their time frame.

The National Weather Service also provides many areas with an hour by hour forecast. This provides you with a 48 hour detailed forecast. The one below is for Sioux Falls. Take note of the snow amounts, the wind speeds, and the wind chill. The wind chills are something you don't see very often so just make a mental note of where you were when these occurred because you might be talking about it for a while.

So, here it is. How much snow we are expecting with this next storm.
Well on our way to an extremely snowy winter. At least you are getting your moneys worth when you bought that shovel.
