Saturday morning lows were unseasonably cold, and record breaking. If you were one of the few people adventurous enough to step outside early morning on Saturday you felt the shock of the cold air instantly on any exposed skin. Morning lows dip to 35 year lows in some locations and shattered records that were around since the 1910's. The coldest spot was Sisseton at 35 degrees below zero and with winds factored in, it felt close to 60 below! Even after these record lows we still have no warmth in sight, another arctic high will move into the region giving us below zero temperatures as highs come mid-week.
Here were some record lows for January second, 2010
Sisseton -35 (-22 1968)
Pipestone -32 (-24 1928)
Sibley -31 (-23 1912)
Worthington -31 (- 25 1974)
Sioux Rapids -30 (-17 1942)
Sioux Falls -30 (-20 1928)
Spencer -30 (-22 1912)
Aberdeen -30 (-29 1928)
Marshall -27 (-27 1974) tied
Yankton -24 (-22 1974)
Mitchell -23 (-21 1961)
Sioux City -22 (-16 1942)
The last time Sioux Falls saw -30 or below was New Years day in 1974 when it dropped to -32.
