On the roads today and tonight and even into Wednesday, it's not going to be very nice - snow will continue to move in, winds will increase and when that happens, the visibilities will decrease, making conditions treacherous for travel. You do NOT want to travel tonight if at all possible, like Cody said, the winds will be nasty and that will drop the wind chill to 15 to 30 degrees BELOW zero. Count in the visibility and the piling up snow... and you just have a recipe for disaster.
All of these things put together have much of the state under winter weather advisories (purple), winter storm warnings (pink), blizzard watches (gray) and even blizzard warnings (white) off to our East in Minnesota. And to give you an idea of how many this system will affect... here's a look at the national watches and warnings map.
The same colors apply to this map. Look at how much pink, purple and white there is on this map - it's all a part of this potent low pressure that will be passing through the Midwest. Yikes!
Stay safe!
