It's official - or at least relatively so... we dropped down below an average high of 79 degrees in August for the southeastern South Dakota area - bringing us close to the 10th coldest August on record.

Things are a little bit different much farther to our west and southwest... in California they are still seeing very dry weather ahead of some possible hurricane-related rains. That dry weather is not helping the fire situation there. We have a news story from NBC about that:

It's scary stuff - and hopefully Hurricane Jimena off the coast of Baja California will allow for some rain to channel its way up north. Unfortunately, it doesn't really look like that is going to happen. The latest computer models are showing the storm headed in a north/northeast direction that will put it over Arizona, and then it hits the jetstream and gets torn apart - with residual moisture headed up north all the way up to Wyoming and possibly western South Dakota. By then you won't see any sort of circulation, though, so don't expect too much!

Have a great night!
